The Buds of Life
Many people think cactus and think thorns and prickers, which there are, let me tell you. I actually was swinging my arms on a walk and my hand hit right into one. Six cactus thorns were stuck in my left them and pointer finger. I pulled them out one by one, and had to use force to remove them. A few months later I had a weird rash on my fingers and I could barely bend my thumb and forefinger. It was painful and felt like my joint was poisoned. Come to find out, it is an after effect of cactus needles. It took six months for the pain and stiffness to cease and today there are still small scars. So cacti are a lot of needles, needles(s) to say :).
This photo, taken by a reader and guest photographer, Amy, was captured near A-Mountain in Tempe, AZ. The flowers went from buds to bloom. The vibrant colors reds, oranges, and yellows are a sight for the eyes.
From Amy.
I love desert blooms. If you notice the areas where buds are, they are babies. New to the world and ready to find the light. They begin to open, revealing brightness and presence. When they have fully bloomed your eyes automatically drift to the color spread. Where some are in full bloom, others are ending there bloom and retreating to their wither. When the blooms begin to retreat, they eventually fall off and leave an empty space on the cactus, as you can see in the pictures.
It is really interesting when you observe nature and it’s natural practice and then apply it to life.

One of my very favorite forms of photography, is capturing nature. It is untainted by our social world and views, capitalistic control, or the ego. It is pure and one of the better observations of the naked eye.
I am happy to have less than equipment to capture photos. It is an art to work with what you have, and not let what you don’t have keep you from doing what you love.
I hope you’ve enjoyed the photography that I share. I appreciate the opportunity to share what my eyes see and my hearts is naturally inclined to capture.
I challenge anyone reading this to be observant next time your outdoors or in nature. What do you see around you? What angle would be cool to try and shoot from. Imperfect action is the beginning. Perfect action takes a little of the living out of life.
